Welcome back. Hope everyone had a great vacation!
This week the 3rd grade has talked about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. It was impressive to hear how many of our students do watch the news. They had interesting insights and significant questions.
3rd graders will have a test on Friday, January 9th on our Biblical text Chapter 8. I have distributed a list of questions which should be used to review for the test. Because of the class work on the Ashrei Prayer, we will have a traditional siyyum (celebration when a chapter of text is learned) on Friday to celebrate.
2nd grader has been studying the weekly Torah portion. We are completing the first of the Five Books of Moses this week. We will have a test on the material next week, in addition to the traditional siyyum. Date to be announced!
3rd Graders: Don't forget to save January 30th for a Shabbat dinner at my house!
Happy 2009!

Hanukkah Festivities
All Akiva classes are preparing for our December 18th Hanukkah Party! Please make certain you let the office know you are coming, and how many additional members of your family will be joining us. We have to make sure there are enough potato latkes and sufganiyot for everyone!
My 3rd grade class is enthusiastically working on a version of Herschl and the Hanukkah Goblins for the evening performance, while the 2nd graders want to hit your funny bone. So be prepared to enjoy the riddles and songs they perform.
Please also remember to check Hanukkah festivities with all area Congregations. In addition to Temple plans, there is also the annual Community Candle Lighting program at the Eastwood Mall (near the Target Concourse) beginning at 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 21st. Come share the lights and spirit of Hanukkah. All Akiva children (and families) are welcomed to join in.
